J.D. Garrett was born in Charlottesville, VA and raised in Virginia Beach. After graduating from Frank W. Cox High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He gained the rank of Sergeant and lead an artillery squad before being honorably discharged. J.D. then received his B.A. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), and his Juris Doctorate from the William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV. After graduation from law school and being admitted to the Bar in Virginia, J.D. immediately opened his own private practice law firm and began helping individuals charged with traffic violations and misdemeanor criminal charges. Over the years, he expanded his practice to include representing clients in simple and complex divorces, child custody cases, other family law matters, as well as minor and major felony criminal charges. J.D. is also certified by the Virginia Indigent Defense Commission to accept court appointed cases and regularly accepts appointments on various misdemeanor and felony matters.
J.D. is happily married to his wife, Erin, and resides with their young son, Cole. He also has two adult children residing in Virginia Beach and another residing in Las Vegas.
